There are a number of reasons why I stay at the Hilton Dublin Airport when flying out from Dublin airport:
- The parking is very secure
- Hilton do “park and fly” deals, so you can get several days parking + hotel room for a reasonable rate
- It’s part of the Hilton group, which I quite like
The hotel isn’t actually at Dublin airport. It’s closer to Malahide, but that’s actually a good thing. Driving around Dublin airport at the moment is a bit of a nightmare, so it’s easier just to let someone else deal with it.
You can easily get to the hotel off the motorway and it has secure underground parking around the back of the hotel’s main building.
The staff are usually very friendly and helpful. Since I’ve stayed there so often over the last year they now greet me by name, which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it!
In terms of facilities the hotel is pretty good. Any of the rooms I’ve stayed in have been quite spacious. There are usually enough towels and the TV is of a reasonable size. On a recent stay I noticed that they’d upgraded to newer televisions which have more guest services builtin, which is quite nice.
The hotel has a bar downstairs which can be quite lively depending on the day of the week. It sometimes has live music. Food is served in the bar or the hotel restaurant, though the hotel restaurant closes earlier than the bar for food.
One negative note is that the hotel’s staff are completely inflexible about closing times when it comes to serving food, as I discovered when I got stranded at Dublin airport at Christmas. I was not impressed!
The hotel offers a free shuttle to the airport and you need to book it in advance. Travel time from the hotel to the airport is less than 10 minutes and if you’re going to Dublin’s new terminal – T2, they’ll usually drop you off close to the door.
If you’re going to the hotel from the airport the shuttle bus leaves from the coach park, but bear in mind you can easily end up waiting for 30 minutes or more for a shuttle bus.
